Tree Root Structures
The environment affects the growth and form of trees, both above and
below ground.  Environmental influences during a tree's early growth
have a profound effect upon its latter form and growth in the landscape.

		Tree Roots in Nature
Initial tap root growth, followed over time by many lateral
roots, to form root structures radiating from the trunk.

		Container Grown Tree Roots
Initial tap root and limited lateral root growth deforms at
		the container wall.

		Field Grown Tree Roots
Initial tap root growth and some lateral growth encouraged by
root pruning.  Parts of larger root and some fibrous root
structures with root nodes are harvested, but much of these structures
are severed and left in the ground.

		Starr Grown Tree Roots
Initial tap root growth is air pruned within days, very early
lateral root growth starts which again is air pruned, and the tree
responds creating a very fibrous root system with many root notes which
are in the root ball and never lost in harvesting.
